What is KPMG Online Assessment?

KPMG Cappfinity's online test known as "transforming small businesses assessment" has 6 sections containing a total of 28 behavioural and cognitive questions. The behavioural questions have situational judgment and personality character, while the cognitive questions are of numerical reasoning style.

The test is a job simulation mimicking a KPMG work environment - and it reflects in two manners:

  • Different dilemmas and scenarios inspired by KPMG's employee's daily routine.
  • A LOT of information in various forms. From videos that simulate conference calls with colleagues, to emails from customers or managers, graphs, tables, and articles.

The key to succeeding in this test is knowing how to "separate the wheat from the chaff" when dealing with a great amount of information.

These are the 6 sections of transforming small businesses test by questions type:

  1. Personality
  2. Situational Judgment
  3. Situational Judgment
  4. Cognitive
  5. Cognitive
  6. Situational Judgment
  • Personality and situational judgment (SJT) are both types of behavioral questions. The SJTs will measure your ability to respond to given scenarios, while personality questions will evaluate your natural tendencies and characteristics.
  • The cognitive questions in the test will test your graph analysis and numerical reasoning skills.

KPMG “transforming small businesses” is the company’s official assessment for most of its recruitments. Thus, either if you are a first-year student looking for a KPMG summer internship, a graduate, or an experienced hire looking for a permanent position – this page is for you!

Tip: There is no time limit for the test, although KPMG’s recommendation is to clear about 90 minutes for the test. We recommend clearing between 90-120 minutes for the test. Also make sure you have a pen, paper, and a calculator.

KPMG Numerical Reasoning Sample Question

An environmental influencer named Janita Wolph was thrilled to discover a new sustainable beer manufacturing business in the UK.

She created an online survey for her 500K followers. The survey included two questions:

1. Which beer out of 5 different options would you like to try?

2. Where are you from?

Please review the following graph and table and answer the question that follows.

Question:

How many people voted for Suzy’s Saison beer in Edinburgh, Dublin, and Belfast together?

Please round your answer to the closest whole number (for the answer "3.8" -> enter "4")

2,859
1,788
2,913
2509
2,970
Correct Answer
Incorrect Answer

The correct answer is (D).

To solve this question, you first need to find out how many people from Edinburgh, Dublin, and Belfast (separately) participated in the survey. Second, calculate how many of them voted for Suzy’s Saison beer. Third, combine the number of votes.

Step 1: Find out how many people from Edinburgh, Dublin, and Belfast (separately) participated in the survey.

Using the results from question 2, you can see that 5,440 people answered the survey from Edinburgh, 3,210 from Dublin, and 4,110 were from Belfast.

Step 2: Calculate how many people voted for Suzy’s Saison beer.

Using the results from question 1, you can calculate the number of Mango Lager votes in each area:

Edinburgh: 22% * 5,440 = 0.22*5,440 = 1,196.8 (~1,197)

Dublin: 14% * 3,210 = 0.14*3,210 = 449.4 (~449)

Belfast: 21% * 4,110 = 0.21*4,110 = 863.1 (~ 863)

Step 3: Combine the number of votes.

Total votes in Edinburgh, Dublin, and Belfast for Mango Lager = 1,197 + 449 + 863 = 2,509.

KPMG SJT Sample Question

The following text is a work-related dilemma, followed by a list of actions that a person might take in that situation.

You are currently working on an app project. The app features are being progressively enhanced during the development phase. You've discovered a new attribute that you think should be added, and you're giving a presentation to the rest of your team. While you're doing this, some of the team's more experienced members continue to interrupt you with questions and queries, while others opt out of the conversation during the meeting.

What do you do?

Please RANK the responses from 1-5 by, with 1 being what you would most likely do and 5 being what you would least likely do:

HSBC Online Values Assessment Sample Question

Recommended Answer

The correct order is A, B, E, D, C.

A avoids engaging the interruptions in a fashion that still allows the primary messages to remain clear. Clear communication is the focus. (No 1)

B demonstrates a pragmatic and calm approach to the interruptions and to ensuring everyone gets to share their opinion. (No 2)

E involves moving efficiently through all the questions in a fashion likely to engage participants but may not be the clearest possible communication of the material. (No 3)

D involves recording questions in writing as an alternative to expressing them verbally and involves thinking outside of the box to engage team members. (No 4)

C involves ignoring the interrupters who are senior colleagues, which is likely to deteriorate the group dynamic even further and perhaps cause further reputation problems down the track. (No 5)

KPMG Personality Sample Question

Please indicate your natural preference for the following statement by choosing a number on the scale.

When something comes up and you realize that you wouldn't be able to complete a task, you usually...

Upset you haven't completed it                                                 Understand it is part of life

scale-123

Recommended Answer

The recommended range is 5-7.

Explanation:

This question is designed to test your response to failure. With both acceptance and disappointment, it is not recommended to be on the extreme sides of the scale. Response “1” would make it seem as if you worry too much about your mistakes, and response “8” would make it seem as if you are not reflecting on them at all.

Left option (Upset you haven't completed it): This response focuses on what was already done and cannot be changed. It does show you care about your work, but it is not benefiting the current situation.

Right option (Understand it is part of life): A professional and mature response to failure would be accepting that what was done cannot be changed, and mistakes happen sometimes. It shows you can take things in proportion and not get stuck on your previous failure.

4 Tips for Practising and Passing the KPMG Assessment

Tip #1 Get Ready to Absorb A LOT of Information

The purpose of the test is to identify how you will function when you encounter different situations and dilemmas as part of your daily work in KPMG. Thus, you will be presented with a lot of information in various forms: videos that simulate conference calls with colleagues, emails from customers or managers, graphs, and articles.

Based on these information sources, you will have to answer various behavioral and cognitive questions while paying attention that your answers align with the company's core values.

Therefore, the most elementary preparation to ace this challenging test is to take it when you are alert and mindful. Perhaps read a few articles before the test or analyze a graph or two to sharpen your mind.

Tip #2 Expand Your Knowledge

A large part of a company's consultant's role is to advise start-up companies on how to properly navigate changing market conditions. Basic knowledge in the fields of entrepreneurship, business strategies, and emerging technologies will help you understand better the scenarios that will be presented to you in the test and will help find better solutions and courses of action.

Tip #3 Analyse Your Job Ad

The job ad for your position contains an invaluable source of information as to the required traits and competencies for your position.

Before practicing, it is very wise to set some time to go over the ad, analyse the required competencies and assign them to the relevant competency dimensions. This will help you focus on the major traits for your desired job, as well as personalize your practice.

Tip #4 Consider KPMG's Values

One of the most important attributes for success in KPMG assessment is to know their core values by heart and keep them in mide while answering behavioral questions.

The six core values of KPMG are:

  • Integrity – Doing what is right
  • Excellence – Constantly learning and improving
  • Courage – Acting with confidence and creating bold solutions
  • Together – Working as a team and finding strength in our diversity
  • For Better – Doing what matters
